Williamsburg Area Transit Authority is the recipient of funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Below is how the agency plans to use these funds. Please refer to one of these web sites for more information.
- GPS/AVL Tracking System ($350,000 STP
Population Formula) - This project allows WATA to provide improved
customer service for over 350,000 (42% trips) employment related
trips annually in supporting Greater Williamsburg regional
workforce. This need becomes critical as WATA continues to
experience record growth and phases increased frequency and
service to areas not served in response to the region’s labor
requirements. In addition this equipment improves safety/security
when WATA responds to Natural Disasters and Domestic incidents.
- Automated Fare /Passenger Collection
($150,000 Urban Formula) - This upgraded software technology
allows WATA to improve customer experience with the introduction
of a multiple pass program (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) and the
reporting of passenger use for local, state and federal reports.
- Ten Bus Shelters ($80,000 Urban Formula) -
Additional Bus Shelters helps improve customer safety and comfort
for WATA’s growing ridership base.
- Preventive Maintenance ($695,665 Urban
Formula) - This project allows WATA to implement a maintenance
plan ensuring vehicle life standards are met, limit service
disruptions and ensure high quality service given over fifty
percent of our Bus Fleet is past it’s useful life.
- Enhancements ($12,592 Urban Formula) - The
projects allows WATA to improve passenger amenities and safety
with the purchase of trash cans, benches, and signage for existing
shelters..
- Operating Assistance ($125,918 Urban
Formula) - Williamsburg Area Transit Authority will use the 10% of
the Stimulus funds to support and improve transit operations. This
includes creation of new positions to assist in the administration
and management of this funding. Also, support fuel costs and
strategies to be more fuel efficient.
- Three replacement vehicles ($195,000 Urban Formula) - These three small specialized buses are included in FY 2010 TIP as part of the five specialized vehicles scheduled for replacement. They do not need TIP approval and are listed to clarify plans for ARRA Formula revenues. These vehicles support ADA services.
